Leadership and Its Critical Success Factors

Consistency First, Leadership - to be a good leader nowadays it is not necessary to have MBAs or any other major degrees, but good sense that times have changed and along these changes, leaders need to now how business and business associates have evolved, based on so much continuous advancing technology, knowledge and information sharing. So, in order to be a good and effective leader, it is crucial to establish relationships and seek good practices that really work and implement the best practices as possible. Second - Fairness and Trust - these are cornerstones of creating an open environment focused on success and team building, that relies on trust and commitments, because without them, there is no project or business that will survive. The assumption of "fair" and "reasonable" shall be maintained and promoted by organizational leadership. Any form of inequity shall be avoided because it will destroy trust and organizational credibility. As a result, performance will be less than optimal. Plus, if trust is not established, there cannot be a good working relationship in the organization. Third - Clarity - in order for individuals or groups to execute their authority and fulfill their responsibilities, they must have a clear picture of what they are to execute and what results are expected. Key focus areas for clarity are authority, organizational mission, individual roles and responsibilities, performance expectations, performance monitoring and mostly - the attitude of the team. You, as the leader shall ensure clarity is in place to have any sort of successful result throughout your organization. Fourth - Ownership - optimal performance can be achieved by giving individuals and groups a sense of ownership for their actions. Ownership gives them an interest in their outcomes and thus, leads them to fulfill their responsibilities. Ownership increases responsible behavior and a caring attitude. Lastly - Consistency - This assures stability. The inconsistent application of policies, procedures,m resources, and/or consequences within an organization undermines a results-oriented environment by weakening perceived organizational commitment and credibility. It deflates morale and promotes cynicism within a project or organization.
