Understanding Osteoporosis in Men

While women may be more focused on bone health, men are also at risk for osteoporosis, a disease characterized by brittle bones and bone loss.
The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons explains these risk factors for osteoporosis in men:
  • Being over age 75.
  • Having a low body-mass index.
  • Having lost more than 5 percent of total body weight in the last four years.
  • Being a current smoker.
  • Living a sedentary lifestyle.
  • Having a male family member with osteoporosis.
