Take the Torture Out of Travel
As you start your trip, the first advice from a veteran traveler like myself is - STAY COMFORTABLE and be PRACTICAL, regardless whether your are for a business or for a leisure trip.
1. SPEED THROUGH THE AIRPORT Maybe you can't go straight to the head of the boarding line the way first-class passenger do, but you can find other ways to move quickly.
STRATEGY 1: Wear traveling shows. Your foot wear should be comfortable. It is unbelievable when I notice women in airports traveling with those humongous high-heels or men traveling wearing very uncomfortable shoes or boots. It tells me they are not experienced travelers and have never gone anywhere, and pretend to be sophisticated, which they are not. Your footwear should be comfortable enough to keep your feet happy on the long march from the check-in to security to your gate, without looking too sloppy. so, try the shoes brands Ecco, Rockport or Sarita shoes from Portugal. I personally love the Sarita brand, they are great for long standing and long walks too, and will also keep you comfortable on the plane.
STRATEGY 2: Pack like a pro and be smart. With proper planning you can skip baggage check and use a carry-on designed to fit into the overhead bin. So, try this simple packing formula: For each day you are away, carry one set of underwear, a pair of socks, and one dress shirt. then add an extra of each for good measure. also pack a pair of trousers for every 2 days, along with a coat, tie, gym shoes, work-out clothes, and toiletries.
STRATEGY 3: Score some free stuff. First, as you board in, check your seat for any damage or spill, so if you find any, be nice and ask the flight attendant whether there are empty seats on the planes, and perhaps you may get an upgrade. You never know.
Befriend with the hosts (flight attendants), and after the meal, perhaps you may walk all the the way to the back and initiate a nice chat with them. sometimes they may offer you a free drink. You never know.
STRATEGY 4: In case of a long flight, do not let your legs or back get cramped. Find an open area on the plane, usually in the back by the bathroom doors and then stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. squat until your thighs are parallel to the floor, stand back up. After 2 or 3 seats of 8, you will feel like a new man or woman.
