How Yoga Exercise Can Improve Your Sex Life

Rekindle your romance…with yoga? If your sex life isn’t what it used to be with your partner, you might want to consider partnered yoga exercise to improve the sexual heath of your relationship.
179233389According to sexual health experts at Loyola University Health System (LUHS), participating in partner yoga may help couples who are dealing with sexual health issues by helping them reconnect and rediscover the pleasure of touch and intimacy. 
Loyola ran a Sexual Wellness Clinic a few years ago to address common physical and emotional challenges that couples experience in their relationships. 
This clinic could be the start of a new treatment model for couples experiencing sexual relationship problems, in all stages of life and love.

What is Partner Yoga Exercise?

The practice of yoga is no longer just a solo activity, as partner yoga is becoming increasingly popular.  Partner yoga exercise involves a wider breadth of components than traditional yoga; it incorporates massage, breathing and postures that benefit both partners. 
Partner yoga exercise can be used to build trust and work on communication skills, while also relaxing and having fun with your partner.

Sexual Wellness Clinic at Loyola

Various problems can affect sexual health, including a decreased sex drive, painful intercourse, erectile dysfunction, the inability to orgasm, and/or premature ejaculation. 
Part of the program that was implemented at Loyola will address these common problems in weekly visits, which will be led by a team of obstetricians and gynecologists, urologists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, dietitians and yoga instructors. 
The program at Loyola also included group education sessions as well as private couples counselling sessions. Couples will also be offered a physical examination by an obstetrician/gynecologist and a urologist during their second session.
The goal of these group sessions is to teach couples how to become more vulnerable and intimate while, at the same time, finding a life-relationship balance. 
Participants learned how to explore healthy alternatives, how to connect the mind and body, and how to keep the momentum going. 
Additionally, the experts leading these sessions addressed nutrition and yoga for improved sexual health. Group educational sessions will only provide information. In the group sessions, the participants were not asked to share personal information about their sexual health.

Partner Yoga Exercise for Sexual Health

As part of the sexual health clinic, Loyola offered a 90 minute partner yoga class. Participating in partner yoga is one way in which the experts helped couples strengthen their relationship physically, emotionally and spiritually. 
Strengthening these three areas of the relationship will lead to a deeper connection and improved sexual health.
Problems with sexual health can happen for a number of reasons, and can have a dramatic effect on a person’s quality of life, relationships, self-esteem and mental health. 
While some practitioners and instructors of partner yoga exercise may make partner yoga look intimidating, it’s important to remember that, over time, it will become more comfortable and intimate. 
Learning partner yoga exercise, just like any other new skill, takes time and patience to master. 
With a little practice, you’ll be well on your way to improving the sexual health of your relationship, as well as improving all of the other aspects of your life affected by problems that you may be experiencing with your sexual health.
