Protect Your Heart From Stress and Depression

Your heart may pay a price when you're stressed or depressed. But there are things you can do to help lighten the burden.

The American Heart Association recommends:
  • Identify the source of your stress or depression, and find ways to cope with it. This may mean psychological therapy.
  • Practice healthy habits, such as by taking a daily walk, but don't push yourself too hard, too fast.
  • Devise a healthier meal plan. Don't reach for junk food when you get stressed.
  • Make healthy lifestyle changes one at a time, rather than trying to change too much at once.
