Take Care of Your Pierced Ears

Pierced ears may become infected if you don't care for them properly.
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends:
  • Don't touch newly pierced ears unless you have just washed your hands.
  • When ears are newly pierced, don't remove earrings for at least six weeks to prevent holes from closing up.
  • A few times each day, gently twist earrings to help keep holes in ear lobes open.
  • Use a cotton ball dipped in rubbing alcohol to gently clean ears a few times daily.
  • Apply a light coat of petroleum jelly on the pierced lobes.
