Soda lovers should seek healthier alternatives to save on calories and sugar.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest mentions these substitutions:
- Water should be the primary drink offered with snacks for children. It's calorie-free and sugar-free, and keeps kids hydrated.
 - Carbonated seltzer water also makes a nice alternative. Kids are sure to like it mixed with 100 percent fruit juice.
 - Low-fat or fat-free milk includes calcium, but stick to plain and avoid chocolate- and strawberry-flavored milks, which are higher in sugar.
 - Consider soy or rice-based milk alternatives.
